Meet at the Erica Caravan park on Saturday 7th Feb at 5pm for a pre trip dinner and drinks.
On Sunday, we will set off for 6 days off grid. Heading east, we’ll tackle some challenging tracks, that will take us down into valleys, before ascending to great views of the Licola Valley.
Day 3 will have the crew heading further east into the Avon Wilderness area, with its thick forest and many river crossings. Camp that night will be next to the Avon River.
Day 4 we will head north for 40km, slowly climbing the southern side of the Moroka range, until we reach and altitude of 1500m, and our camp for the night at Horseyard Flat.
Day 5 will take us to The Pinnacles, one of the highest spots within the high country for 360 degree views. We will then take the steep and potentially challenging Billy Goat track and descend to Talbotville.
Day 6 is a rest day, which can be spent fishing, swimming, bushwalking or just relaxing around the open flat area of the Talbotville camping ground. An day trip to explore the area is an option.
Day 7 we will head north, up the steep and possibly challenging Basalt South track, taking us all the way to Blue Rag Range Track. More great views are assured from the 1500m of elevation at the trig point. We’ll then head further east, towards Devils Hollow / Mayford for our final night of camping.
Day 8 we will continue our travels east, hitting the bitumen at Omeo, before taking the Great Alpine Road all the way to Porepunkah and staying at the caravan park for the final night. A post trip dinner at a pub 500m from the caravan park will be a nice way to finish the week.
Terrain varies from scenic to hard & some difficult and steep ascents & descents. Expect a lot of river crossings so vehicles must have a snorkel or raised air intake.
Your vehicle must have one or more of traction control, lockers or a winch. It must also have M/T’s or offroad bias A/T’s with at least 50% tread.
You must bring recovery gear and have 4 traction boards if you do not have a winch.
No towing, tents only. No dogs due to national parks.
